Replacing Concrete with Vegetation

Eliminate the Blight of Concrete
Concrete paved slopes, embankments and channels are a blight on many urban environments. They're expensive, and they're ugly from the outset---but as skateboarders and graffiti artists discover them they go from bad to worse. When the inevitable breakdowns occur, along edges and in the joints where weeds begin to grow, they become intolerable.

Channel curves or outfalls protected with expensive concrete riprap invariably become magnets for every piece of litter that floats downstream. When weeds begin to grow up between the chunks of concrete, what started out as simply ugly becomes an eyesore. Maintenance is costly and dangerous, and the prospect of injury to those who might happen by is very real.

Vegetated Channels are a More Desirable BMP
A natural-looking, vegetated channel or slope is obviously more attractive and highly desirable compared to concrete solutions, but in spite of the EPA studies that prove it's advantages in dealing with storm water runoff, engineers have often had little choice when designing to a goal that requires armoring to the level provided by concrete.

The good news is that a new High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat (HPTRM) technology provides the armoring characteristics of concrete and concrete riprap, in an innovative permanent mat design that not only allows the slope to be fully vegetated, but actually enhances the growth rate of that vegetation. Pyramat is a patented three-dimensional woven geotextile that provides long-term strength, dimensional stability not available in other permanent or degradable erosion control solutions.

Save Money When Compared To Any Concrete Solution To Armoring
Much less costly than either concrete solution, more aesthetically pleasing in nearly any situation, safer for passerby and maintenance workers, and less costly to maintain---Pyramat protected slopes are replacing concrete in projects all across the country. With several years of history behind the product in installation of all types, it's viability is not in doubt. As authorized Dealers, and the preferred installers, we've installed the largest installation in this region.
