Vegetative cover is the ideal solution for controlling erosion, roots keep soil in place and slopes from failing. On all but the flattest of ground, seeding (broadcast or hydro-mulch) and fertilizing simply won't do the job unless weather conditions are absolutely perfect. Since reseeding and reworking erosion damaged slopes is costly, it makes sense to insure that vegetation takes hold and does its job quickly and efficiently the first time, by using one of the following methods. Each method has a variety of alternatives and each has specific applications in which it provides the optimum stabilization answer.
Erosion control blankets shelter seed from harsh sun and keeps them from being washed away by rain events. They minimize the erosive action of rainfall and they hold water close to seedlings to promote a better environment for germination and faster growth. Slopes are seeded with season specific seed and fertilizers and ECBs are stapled in close contact over the newly seeded soil. Unlike loose mulches, ECBs provide more dimensionally stable erosion protection. [More Info]
Next generation hydraulically applied solutions are a new option in our stabilization tool kit. Essentially providing a 'blown on' ECB that includes the seed and fertilizer in a multi-part hydraulic application, these systems include polymers, cross-linked fibers and tackifiers to create a Flexible Growth Medium. Imagine a slope with vacuum-sealed ECB and you'll have an idea of how an FGM works. [More Info]
Designed for slopes requiring permanent reinforcement, turf reinforcement mats provide all the benefits of an erosion control blanket (ECB) and then permanently anchor root systems to the surface soil. They're the most efficient way to provide permanent erosion control on moderate to extreme slopes, low to high-flow channels and many applications in between. The stability that TRMs provide allows root systems to establish solid ground support. [More Info]
