Flow Dissipation

Whether channelized flow or sheet flow traversing a slope, flow dissipation products help prevent/minimize erosion by dissipating the energy from those flows. They also provide filtration of silts and sediments. The selection of these erosion control tools below includes units that are biodegradable, others that are reusable, other that are made from post-consumer recycled materials and still others that are saturated with flocculant to maximize sediment removal. There’s one here to fit every need.

  • Filter stormwater and runoff water
  • Easy to lay along the edge of the sidewalks to keep soil on site
  • Easy to clean and easy to carry
  • Spread overland water flow
  • Trap sediment to prevent erosion
  • Can be wrapped around storm drain inlets to slow water and settle out sediment
  • Coir wattles are less expensive and more effective.
  • Coir wattles are level spreaders

Straw Wattles

Straw Wattles are a cost effective, storm water treatment product designed to filter sediment-laden runoff while reducing hydraulic energy. These wattles contain chopped straw encased in a heavy duty, knitted cylindrical web, both of which are completely biodegradable.

Excelsior Wattles

Excelsior Wattles are a cost effective, storm water treatment product designed to filter sediment-laden runoff while reducing hydraulic energy. These wattles contain expanded wood fibers encased in a heavy duty, knitted cylindrical web, both of which are biodegradable, although Excelsior Wattles have a longer lifespan that straw wattles.

Coconut (Coir) Logs

Coir logs are made from coconut fibers. Woven fibers create a net-like sleeve encasing additional fiber infill. Also biodegradable, Coir Logs have a longer lifespan than Excelsior wattles. Typically they provide the longest lifespan of any biodegradable wattle.

Triangular Silt Dike

The Triangular Silt Dike is a re-usable, multipurpose alternative to rock check dams. Made of lightweight and durable materials, Triangular Silt Dikes weigh just 7 to 9 lbs. per seven foot section. The protective apron on both sides of the dike minimize erosion and failure. The units install in minutes with U-shaped wire staples and can be conformed to curves and rough terrain. These units can be cleaned and reused.

Erosion Eel®

An environmentally friendly, low impact erosion and sediment control device, that provides high suspended particle capture and flow control. Erosion Eels have a heavy-duty, high flow rate woven Polypropylene geotextile exterior and washed shredded rubber internal fill. Eels are heavy enough to stay put in high flows, without stakes. Eels can replace silt fence, rock check dams, temporary diversion berms and inlet drain protection. Despite their weight, they are easy to install and relocate, and they’re very reusable.

9.5” Eels are available in 10’ lengths
